The name of my website, The I-Thou, is inspired by Martin Buber’s philosophy, which captures the essence of authentic connection. In Buber’s framework, I-Thou represents a mutual, present, and genuine way of relating—where we meet each other as whole beings, not as objects to be analyzed or used. This relational stance is at the heart of all the services I offer, from psychotherapy and EMDR to Couples Therapy, Psychosexual Therapy, CBT-I, and Supervision. Across these approaches, I am committed to fostering a safe, collaborative space where you feel deeply seen and understood, allowing us to explore your unique experiences and uncover pathways to healing, growth, and transformation.

Psychotherapy is a specialised conversation that helps you navigate emotional and mental health challenges. You will work closely with me to gain deeper self-awareness and explore new ways of responding to life's situations. With this understanding, you can choose the best ways to meet your needs rather than reacting according to old habits.

Sessions last fifty minutes and require a minimum weekly commitment. We’ll typically meet at the same time each week, but I will always try to offer an alternative time in the same week if needed.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic technique that helps process and reduce the intensity of distressing memories. Traumatic events can overwhelm the brain, causing these memories to become "frozen" and re-experienced vividly. EMDR uses alternating left-right brain stimulation—through eye movements, sounds, or taps—to unlock and reprocess these memories, making them less distressing and more manageable, similar to how the brain naturally processes experiences during REM sleep.

Sessions are fifty minutes. I would recommend weekly sessions, but this can be more flexible.

Relationship Therapy

Relationship therapy, or couples counselling, is a form of psychotherapy that helps people in relationships address and resolve conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen their emotional connection. As a trained relationship therapist, I guide partners in exploring their relationship dynamics, uncovering underlying issues, and developing healthier patterns of interaction. Relationship therapy can be helpful for a range of challenges, from communication breakdowns to issues like trust, intimacy, or life transitions. The goal is to foster understanding, empathy, and collaboration between partners, ultimately enhancing relationship satisfaction and stability.

Sessions will typically be for one hour unless agreed otherwise. We may start with weekly sessions and then decide to spread the sessions out. This will depend on how the work is going and what the relationship needs.

Psychosexual Therapy

Sex therapy is psychotherapy that focuses on sexual concerns. My approach involves understanding human sexual responses by exploring the connections between the mind, emotions, body, and brain. It also considers the impact of relationships, family dynamics, cultural norms, and societal messages on how we experience and express our sexuality.

There’s no one “normal” way to be sexual. I support clients in discovering their own unique sexual identity and developing the confidence to make empowered choices. I embrace the diversity of human sexuality and recognize pleasure as a natural, healing, and transformative aspect of life.

Sexual concerns may be addressed in the context of individual psychotherapy or relationship therapy.

I provide specialized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to help individuals overcome persistent sleep challenges. CBT-I is an evidence-based approach that targets the thoughts, behaviours, and routines that interfere with healthy, restful sleep. Through one-on-one sessions, I’ll work with you to understand your unique sleep difficulties, identify unhelpful beliefs or habits, and develop practical strategies that support lasting improvements in sleep. My goal is to help you regain control over your nights and experience the rejuvenating rest you need for each new day. With personalized care, I am here to guide you on the path to better sleep and a refreshed, balanced life.

Supervision

In my approach to clinical supervision, I take an integrative stance that acknowledges and values the diversity of training backgrounds and theoretical orientations that supervisees bring. I build on this foundation, incorporating various models such as Gestalt, CBT, psychoanalytic, and systemic approaches while maintaining a cohesive, person-centred supervisory practice. I emphasize the importance of reflective practice and aim to create a supportive yet challenging environment where supervisees can explore the complexities of their roles in the particular context of their work. I focus on fostering a robust supervisory relationship, providing constructive feedback, addressing ethical considerations, and navigating both conscious and unconscious dynamics. I encourage critical reflection, ongoing learning, and the integration of theory into practical application, helping supervisees develop competence and confidence.
